356th Fighter Group holds benefit for military outreach
Bob Scofield invited the Red Cross Military Outreach Program to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of his 356th Fighter Group restaurant in Green with a fundraiser for the program Friday evening.
Military Services Manager Melissa Seibert said the group offers a variety of services to members of the armed forces, many when they come back from deployment.
“We provide outreach programs to those with post-traumatic stress disorder, and offer a lifeline to service personnel and their families,” Seibert said as she and her husband, Mark, welcomed guests and collected food donations.
Scofield handed out souvenir dog tags commemorating the anniversary. He was joined cutting a huge 25th anniversary cake by his wife, Tina, and daughters, Brianna and Riley, while sons Patrick and Spencer were busy at work in the restaurant.
Rick Mirenzi of Community Radio on WHBC (1480-AM) thanked Scofield for his community support.
Jean Knapp and Mike Richardson came in support of the military; both of their sons serve in the Navy. Nanetta Gates enjoyed the event with son Jamison, who is in the Army Reserves, and Cooper Ivan and Taelor Brown.
Also enjoying the party were Carol Capretta, Ryan Keane, Sara Mong, Betty Vogt, Megan Palmer, Debbie Hutson, Donna Klonowski, Ian Rumeles and Terri Black.
DJ Kory Nicol was master of ceremonies and La Flavour entertained. Wanda Montgomery, Cynde Reed, Dave Ickes, Vickie Fox, Joanie Smart and Darlene Mohler enjoyed themselves on the dance floor under spinning disco balls.
Seibert said donations are needed for Christmas baskets for military families. Call 330-453-0146.
Larry Fox and John Gabriel said they’re planning a fundraiser Jan. 28, also at the 356th Fighter Group, to support the Red Bird Center’s Veterans Healing Programs.
